Purpose of Role:

The Mechanical Engineer will be talented, enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills, have a hands-on, rigorous approach, and be able to apply their mechanical design knowledge to provide innovative solutions to the complex engineering problems that we face every day.  Working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative, cross-functional team environment, the Mechanical Engineer will help deliver robust products that satisfy the needs of our customers.

Product Development Manager

Key Accountabilities:

  • Contribution of mechanical design knowledge and innovative thinking for new product development activities including concept definition, prototype modelling, detailed design, verification testing and product qualification, along with manufacturing development and support.
  • Generation of specifications for the design of sub-systems and components.
  • Optimisation of design solutions and trade-offs for owned part and system areas.
  • Hands-on involvement with product design, design verification, testing and characterisation.
  • Development and/or assistance with test equipment and tooling.
  • Meeting of challenging project deadlines while assuring high quality solutions.
  • Helping to build core knowledge and define best practice for the team and department.

Key challenges:

  • Understanding the design requirements and operating environment of the products and their applications.
  • Developing innovative and effective solutions for often conflicting requirements.
  • Meeting tight project and development deadlines without compromising design quality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and focus on the task at hand.

Person Specification:

Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is essential.

The Mechanical Engineer will have up-to-date knowledge and familiarity with:

  • Fundamentals of mechanical engineering including: mathematics and statistics, tolerance analysis, stress/strain, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
  • Design and tooling of mechanical components for manufacture using techniques including plastic injection moulding, die casting, extrusion, machining, extrusion etc.
  • Mechanical modelling, optimisation and design tools (CAE).
  • Materials and manufacturing methods.

The Mechanical Engineer will be:

  • Able to contribute and thrive in an exciting, dynamic and fast moving environment.
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal and cross-functional working skills.
  • Innovative, and have a methodical and systematic approach to work.
  • Detail and quality conscious while able to deliver to schedule.
  • An excellent verbal and written communicator.
  • A competent and productive user of MS Office applications.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in a mechanical engineering (or equivalent) industry.
  • Design of inkjet printheads and/or associated systems or printers.
  • Design and development of complex products and systems involving precision custom mechanical components and the integration of electronics and/or fluidics.
  • Manufacturing methods for both rapid prototyping and mass production.
  • Design for Manufacture & Assembly.
  • 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Fluidic system design, manufacture and test.
  • FEA/stress/thermal/fluidic modelling.

  • Contribution of mechanical design expertise and innovation for the new product development (NPD) activities from architecture and concept definition through to detailed modelling, design, test and product qualification, along with manufacturing development and support.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will have up-to-date knowledge and a high level of skill in:

  • Fundamentals of mechanical engineering including: mathematics and statistics, tolerance analysis, stress/strain, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
  • Design and tooling of mechanical components for manufacture using techniques including plastic injection moulding, die casting, extrusion, machining, extrusion etc.
  • State-of-the-art materials and associated manufacturing methods. Ideally experience of other advanced techniques such as MIM, CIM, additive manufacturing etc.
  • Mechanical modelling, optimisation and design tools (CAE).
  • Design and process FMEA.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be:

  • Able to contribute and thrive in an exciting, dynamic, and fast moving environment.

  • Completion of at least one complete product development cycle, from concept through full design, development and industrialisation to successful market introduction.
  • Manufacturing methods for both rapid prototyping and mass production.
  • Design for Manufacture & Assembly.
  • 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.

Purpose of Role:

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that our industrial 3D Printing products deliver maximum value to our customers. The role comprises four main areas of activity:

  1. Tier 3 customer support: Providing assistance to regional Applications Engineers where they have been unable to solve technical challenges faced by customers.
  2. Train the Trainer: Providing training on-site and in the regions to Applications Engineers and other colleagues/customers.
  3. Creation of sales/marketing collateral: Running projects to create data, for example with case studies or whitepapers, that can be used by sales and marketing to create collateral to support sales
  4. Steering future R&D/product development: Using experience of customer needs and knowledge of technical opportunities and challenges to advise on the company’s future R&D and products. 

The role involves running industrial 3D Printing equipment and associated technologies in our Technology Development and Demonstration Centre while liaising closely with colleagues and customers across the globe. Travel requirement of up to 25%.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Become a specialist in our industrial 3D Printing products
  • Solving technical challenges relating to the manufacturing process of our products
  • Taking a systematic and hands-on approach to problem solving
  • Occasional travel to external facilities
  • Be competent in the operation of supporting equipment and facilities including pre and post-processing equipment and testing equipment such as tensile testing, accuracy testing etc.
  • Training of new and current staff and colleagues/customers including Design for Additive Manufacturing
  • Provide customer support when required
  • Process improvement and adherence to H&S standards and operating procedures.
  • Generate feedback and record, such as:
  • Case studies
  • Application notes
  • Application training
  • Escalations
  • Product and application requirements
  • And any other duties commensurate with the level of the role

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Technical Degree such as BEng/Meng/MSC or equivalent industrial experience
  • Experience of working with electro-mechanical manufacturing and/or 3D printing equipment
  • Experience of working with 3rd party collaborators/customers in a manufacturing and/or technical environment
  • Experience of working to strict Health and Safety requirements
  • A good command of English
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Experience with industrial 3D Printing equipment and/or powder handling equipment would be an advantage
  • CAD experience with SOLIDWORKS and experience of Design for Additive Manufacturing would be an advantage
  • Experience of working with Polymer Powder Bed Fusion based Additive Manufacturing processes (e.g. Laser Sintering, Multi-jet Fusion/High Speed Sintering) would be an advantage.
  • Experience of product verification and validation would be an advantage
  • Experience of developing and/or delivering technical training would be an advantage
  • Experience of maintaining ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards would be an advantage
