About the Role

Purpose of Role: 

The purpose of this role is to lead the Product Validation team to provide the information necessary to validate product performance during printhead development.

As team lead, will be responsible for developing the capability and capacity of the team, including the people, skills, tools, processes and equipment necessary to achieve high output, against agreed targets for quality, cost and delivery.

As team lead, will be responsible for the line management of the Product Validation team.

As an individual contributor, will be responsible for leading all product validation activities including environmental, life and reliability tests, as well as developing the strategy for product validation throughout the product lifecycle.  

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reports to the Head of Printhead Development.
  • Line management responsibility for the Product Validation team (4-8 people).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure the Product Validation team is structured for success with a talent pipeline and suitable succession plans.
  • Continually assess the capability and capacity of the team to achieve high output, against agreed targets for quality, cost and delivery.
  • Develop a positive culture in line with Department, Group and Company values and behaviours.
  • Build relationships with all other team leads to help create a collaborative working environment.
  • Support all NPD projects in line with the product roadmap by ensuring appropriate resource is available as and when required.
  • Own and manage the budget for the Product Validation
  • In collaboration with other teams, develop a culture for Design for Reliability for new printheads.
  • Define reliability needs, reliability standards and methodology, and generate risk assessments, procedures and reliability-focussed test plans.
  • Participate in setting product specifications that can be validated.
  • Work with project and team leads to define the test and validation approach and equipment needed for specific projects.
  • Develop verification and validation plans for the team to execute.
  • Test equipment is cost effective and will generate reliable and repeatable test results correlated against known industry standards and is fit for purpose.
  • Create and implement appropriate reliability strategies that deliver the information required to make high-quality engineering decisions.
  • Ensure adherence to the PLM process and proactively drive process changes to improve efficiency, quality, and time-to-market during printhead development.

Person Specification:

  • Intelligent, personable, team player, practical, pragmatic. Able to work as part of a close team, not afraid of taking risks, challenging decisions, sharing information and communicating to colleagues.
  • Comfortable leading a small agile team where their contribution, energy, enthusiasm and drive to deliver high quality will be critical.
  • Confident communicator, able to adjust their style when explaining complex technical issues to peers, managers, customers etc.

  • Keen to build technical relationships with customers and/or partners; able to travel internationally when required.
  • Ability to investigate and analyse complex systems in a methodical way. Able to debug a system from the printhead through to a printing application as required.

Experience of:

    • Degree qualified in a STEM subject (Engineering, Maths, Physics, etc.).
    • Leading and/or managing teams in an R&D/Manufacturing environment.
    • Ideally with experience in the digital print/imaging industry
    • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Design of Experiments (DOE), experience using Minitab would be advantageous
    • Proven lab work experience, identifying equipment and measurement needs. Standard test procedures and equipment.
    • Knowledge of reliability methodologies (Weibull, ALT, HALT, HASS, DfR, Reliability Block Diagrams).
    • Experience in statistical analysis techniques and their application in assessing system and sub-system reliability.
    • Practical experience in assessing failure modes (including some understanding of physics of failure) and implementing mitigations and reliability growth.
    • Experience in 8D problem solving, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and/or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
