Freedom to make decisions
The SQE operates with a significant level of autonomy, making day to day decisions regarding supplier quality activities, approvals, and corrective actions. They are empowered to escalated quality concerns and recommend supplier development actions or changes in supplier status based on performance.
Complexity
- Multiple suppliers across different manufacturing processes and geographies
- Working across all operational departments with broad stakeholder set
- Balance technical quality standards with cost considerations, delivery constraints and practical implementation
- Operating within a high precision mechanical environment down to micron / sub-micron level
Planning horizon
- Immediate containment of supplier quality issues
- Development and execution of supplier audits, improvement plans and PPAP
Key Accountabilities
On a typical day you'll be expected to:
- Evaluate, approve and monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with requirement
- Lead PPAP activities
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for supplier non-conformances, ensuring effective containment and problem resolution
- Conduct supplier audits (both nationally and internationally) in conjunction with the procurement team to evaluate capabilities and improvement opportunities
- Work closely with internal engineering teams through the PPAP process and ensure compliance with change control procedures
- Monitor supplier quality metrics and lead improvement opportunities when required
- Support the introduction of new product and changes at suppliers
- Provide technical guidance and supports on quality tools, process control and appropriate metrology methods where applicable
Knowledge, experience and qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline
- Sound understanding of operating within a Quality Management System (QMS) with particular knowledge & experience of ISO 9001
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes, particularly moulding (plastics / rubbers), casting, sheet metal forming, drawing and stamping
- Proven experience in a supplier in a supplier quality role within a manufacturing environment
- In-depth understanding of PPAP, APQD, FMEA, Control Plan and other core quality tools
- Familiarity with metrology equipment and measurement techniques (CMM, gauges, GD&T etc.) is desirable
- Proven experience of problem resolution at customer sites (both national and international)
