Purpose of Role

A key member of the R&D team, leading and owning the work on Image Processing and System Calibration. The successful candidate must be capable of owning all of the technical aspects relating to the successful delivery of highly technical R&D projects.

Reporting to the Head of Technical Authorities; this role requires experience and skills across the full development lifecycle; from technical specification through design and verification, and into product integration and production.

The role will as such interface and interact with all other disciplines within R&D, Manufacturing and Commercial Support as per project demands.

The role will be based at Xaar’s R&D headquarters at the Cambridge Research Park, Waterbeach, Cambridge however, there will from time to time be a requirement to travel between sites and visit customers.

 

Key Accountabilities

·         Technical responsibility for the development of Image Processing and System Calibration solutions for Xaar Print Engines and Printheads (products).

·         Creation of technical design specifications to meet new product requirements, assessing technical risks and planning for mitigation accordingly.

·         Design software and sub-systems solutions including directly designing, coding, and testing of new features.

·         Ensure the product complies with its specification in terms of functionality, performance and reliability from a technical perspective by creating, planning and managing verification and validation programs.

·         Responsible for ensuring that software new product developments are delivered on time and to quality.

·         To support commercially deployed products and provide technical support to end customers.

·         To identify and register all patentable ideas and take action to avoid potential infringements.

·         Focuses on the continuous improvement of own skills and R&D processes in own discipline.

 

Essential

·         Relevant degree (BSc/ MSc / PhD) in Mathematics, Physics, Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar.

·         With an anticipated minimum of 2 years product development experience within high-tech R&D environments.

·         Ability to understand the complex nature of component interactions within a systems environment.

·         Engineering experience in analytical algorithm development and system design with a focus upon data processing and manipulation.

·         Experienced with writing code in Matlab, Visual Studio, C++ or C#.

·         Experience of early stage product development from concept through to product implementation.

·         Experience of problem solving techniques through analytical methods with the ability to diagnose and provide solutions.

·         Experience of specifying technical requirements & production of high quality technical reports.

·         Experience in explaining/presenting highly complex ideas

 

Desirable

·         Digital inkjet printing knowledge with an understanding of the colour management workflow.

·         Image analysis, creation of calibration files, look up tables and screening algorithms.

·         Familiarity with colour calibration standards within the print industry.

·         Knowledge of Machine Learning
