Why Xaar?

We have an ambitious vision

Our vision is to grow annual revenues to £220 million by 2020 and to £525 million by 2025. The opportunities for growth are significant; industry forecasts project the digital print market to double over the next ten years and our challenge is to expand our existing technology into new markets and to develop new technology to maximise that opportunity.

So that we remain a world leader in our industry, we invest significantly in the future;

  • Over 20% of sales revenue was invested in R&D in 2016
  • Over £60 million has been invested in our state of the art cleanroom production facility in Huntingdon since the plant opened in 2007.
  • 2016 was another busy year at Xaar with several new product launches, the opening of a 3D printing centre in Nottingham, our first acquisition and printhead partnerships announced with Ricoh and Xerox.

We’re well positioned for growth and it’s an exciting time to be part of the Xaar team.

We’re an award winning company

In November 2016 Xaar received two prestigious awards.

  • The UK industry association for electronic systems, microelectronics and semiconductors (NMI) awarded us Product of the Year for our 2001 printhead.
  • Winner of the Design and Innovation Award and a People and Skills Awards finalist at the Manufacturer MX Awards ceremony. In addition, Xaar’s Justin Noble was a finalist for Young Manufacturer of the Year Award.

Employee profiles

Simon Kirk, Senior Product Manager

Xaar’s reputation in the market is of high quality, innovative and market leading products, so it was an exciting prospect to be part of an up and coming company and shape its future growth. As a Senior Product Manager, my primary role is to manage products through their life cycle; from concept and launch to withdrawal and replacement. The value to Xaar comes from bringing new products to market (organic growth), getting the most out of our current products (profitability and sustainability) and making sure all the products under my remit are launched successfully, supported well, are fit for purpose and are meeting the requirements of our customers (customer satisfaction).

Since joining Xaar, I’ve learnt a lot about our technology and markets, and benefitted greatly from the experienced sales and engineering teams. I’ve developed my approach from having the opportunity to be in front of OEMs, customers, end users and market influencers, and I’d like grow my career here and exceed expectations by advocating product management to internal and external customers.

Xaar is introducing market leading and innovative new products all the time, not just print heads, and I feel strongly that Xaar will make a success from these new offerings and continue to grow; which is good for me as an employee but it’s also good for our shareholders, our customers and the markets we serve. I enjoy the culture of drive and growth that is led by this, our highly driven people and the focus on customer first.

Adam Ellis, Project Manager, 3D

As Xaar demonstrated commitment to 3D printing with the appointment of Prof Hopkinson as Director of 3D Printing and a dedicated 3D facility, the offer to join Xaar was one I could not refuse. My primary responsibility is High Speed Sintering Services, this builds on the unique knowledge and experience I was privileged to gain at The University of Sheffield whilst also working as part of Prof Hopkinson’s team. High Speed Sintering services is focused on relationships with end-users of the technology, helping them understand and assess the business opportunity and provide access to the next generation of 3D printing technology. To be part of a team pioneering a new technology is a challenging but rewarding role. I have no doubt that 3D will make a significant contribution to Xaar’s future vision by leading the digital manufacturing revolution. It’s a pleasure to be part of a progressive company that focuses on progression and development of staff and to be surrounded by driven, trustworthy colleagues willing to collaborate, to push boundaries and create new standards.

Kirsty Brearley, Production Operator

I joined Xaar in June 2016 as a Production Operator. Having previously worked in a retail environment, I was keen to have a new challenge in a different field. As a Production Operator I am expected to follow standard procedures but it is encouraged that we give feedback to different areas of the business in order to drive continuous improvement. From this I have been involved in several projects which have helped to streamline processes and have resulted in a visible cost saving to the business. I enjoy working as a part of team, supporting each other to find solutions to challenges and in delivering our numbers.

Through working with people from a variety of experience levels and backgrounds, along with Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) training, I have learnt several processes and developed various transferable skills. I am keen to progress my career in Xaar and so always welcome the opportunity for learning new processes and developing my understanding of the products we produce. I like to know how my current role fits in to the company as a whole and how this can lead to further progression. With our expanding product range and industry collaborations, the future opportunities for Xaar are very exciting.

Matt Sinclair, Senior Management Accountant

As the Senior Management Accountant at Xaar, I am responsible for leading and developing the FP&A team. Through analysis, reporting, and financial projections, it is our role to provide the business with the information it needs to make key decisions.

I joined Xaar in 2015 as an Assistant Management Accountant, having previously worked in the not-for-profit sector. I was initially attracted to Xaar due to its highly regarded reputation within Cambridge and its ambitious plans for future growth.

Life at Xaar is one that is both challenging, but extremely rewarding. The work is fast paced, and every day is always different to the previous. From the CEO, to the R&D engineers, it’s the people that really make Xaar a special place to work. Everyone trusts each other in the work they are doing and we are all constantly pulling together to make Xaar’s vision a reality.

From my perspective, Xaar’s future looks bright. The company has a couple of game changing products currently in development and a vision that everyone believes in. I look forward to continuing to work, and develop here, and helping the Xaar achieve its goals.
