Xaar plc is showing its very latest greyscale inkjet technology at drupa 2004 – the OmniDot 760 GS3 and OmniDot 760 GS8 printheads – both products join Xaar’s new and exclusive OmniDot next generation printhead family.
Both greyscale OmniDot printheads have a print swathe of 53.9mm and boast 764 active nozzles – the highest nozzle-count industrial printheads available in the market – offering accelerated printing speeds and enhanced performance. In addition, the OmniDot greyscale series is Xaar’s first production printhead range to use aqueous inks, as well as accommodating Xaar’s regular ink-types – UV, solvent and oil-based.
The printheads have been developed with differing specifications to address individual market requirements:
OmniDot 760 GS3
The OmniDot 760 GS3 has been developed in conjunction with industry-leader Agfa, for high-quality photographic and graphics applications. It offers a print resolution of 720dpi and an apparent resolution of 1440dpi. Offering five levels of greyscale, a sub drop of 3 pl with a maximum drop volume of 12pl and a firing frequency of 11.7KHz, the printhead has been developed with Agfa’s specific inkjet printing requirements and in addition will be sold by Xaar directly to its OEMs.
OmniDot 760 GS8
Developed to offer a larger drop size than the 760 GS3, the OmniDot 760 GS8 has been designed by Xaar, exclusively for Xaar’s OEMs, for the graphic and packaging sectors. With a 360dpi print resolution, the printhead’s extremely high drop placement accuracy enables single pass printing that achieves an apparent resolution of 720dpi, making it highly productive.
Commenting on Xaar’s latest greyscale technology, David Frew, group marketing manager says, “Following the success of the Leopard greyscale printhead, we have teamed up with Agfa to develop products that complement a number of markets from graphics through to packaging. Through working with Agfa to develop the 760 GS3, we have produced a solution specifically for the digital imaging and photographic sectors, and by adapting this technology further, have designed the 760 GS8, a Xaar-branded product that boasts a larger drop size and is focused on our industrial and packaging sectors.”
